Abstract
The article reviews Paweł Piotr Warot’s book, Wojewódzki Urząd Bezpieczeństwa Publicznego w Olsztynie. Struktura – kadry – działalność. The reviewed publication deals with a specific and very interesting region – Warmia and Mazury. Cultural traditions, population migration, national diversity and the complicated situation of the post-war period made the region a very difficult area for the security services. The monograph presents a broad background of the establishment of the apparatus of repression structures and almost all aspects of its activities in the implementation and consolidation of people’s power: preparing and ensuring the safe conduct of the 1946 referendum, fighting the independence underground, opposition political parties and “hostile elements”, surveillance of the Church as well as other activities aimed at building a new society.
