Abstract
At the end of November 1919, the mission of the Polish Red Cross was delegated to Kiev, where at the beginning of the First World War, a few hundred thousand Poles were living, in order to provide help during their preparation to leave for the motherland. Even though this operation was of a humanitarian nature, political factors played a deciding role in this case. Therefore, it was not possible for the mission to carry out its work in Kiev. However, it managed to help people in Bessarabia, where for almost a month it provided comprehensive aid. This work ended with the arrival of the Red Army, because for the Soviet administration, class struggle was more important than human rights. This publication presents the circumstances related to the organization of the aforementioned mission, its arrival in Ukraine and its work there.
